In the fall of 2005, the NAU Master of Liberal Studies program offered a graduate-level class entitled “Ecological Oral Histories” (MLS 599). The class was spurred by a recommendation from the Landsward Institute's (formerly the Ecological Monitoring & Assessment Program) Science Advisory Panel that the collection of ecological oral histories from old-timers of northern Arizona would provide new insights into environmental change in northern Arizona. Nearly 20 ecological oral history interviews have been completed thus far (spring 2007) and additional interviews are planned. This project has helped to advance understanding of ecological change on the Colorado Plateau.
Please read the "Additional Information" page to find out more about this project.
Transcripts and audio recordings of all of the ecological oral histories completed through this program are available via the Cline Library Digital Archives. Type "ecological oral histories" into the search field.
