During Spring 2011, a research group at Northern Arizona University came together to begin to map changing cultural, social,
political and economic conditions in Arizona. Thia initial research was conducted by doctoral-level students from the Department of
Politics and International Affairs: Doris Schartmueller, Petrika Peters,
and Sophia Barkat under
the supervision of Dr. Frederic I. Solop, Politics and International
Affairs Department Chair. The research, the first in a larger series, included the following:
- An exploration of the political and economic history of Arizona to better understand current values.
- A summary of the work of major policy institutes and think-tanks in Arizona and an examination of what these groups consider to be the “big picture” issues for the state.
- “Stakeholder” interviews exploring the factors contributing to the major issues in Arizona and perceptions of how these issues will change into the future..
